New Mexico State Government
New Mexico has a three branch state government – the executive branch lead by Governor Bill Richardson, the legislative branch and the judiciary.
Diane Denish is Lt. Governor of the State of New Mexico.
Patrick Lyons is Commissioner of public lands for the State of New Mexico.
Ben Lujan (District 46, Santa Fe) is the Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives.
Tim Jennings (District 28, Catron, Grant & Socorro) is the President Pro-Tempore of the New Mexico Senate.
The New Mexico Legislature meets annually in January. In odd numbered years the session is 60 days, in even numbered years, the session is limited to 30 days. The legislature meets in the State Capitol located at the corner of historic Old Santa Fe Trail and Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe.
Albuquerque City Government
An elected mayor and an elected city council govern Albuquerque. Mayor Martin Chavez currently leads the city. The city council is comprised of nine members – President Brad Winter and Council Members include: Isaac Benton, Michael Cadigan, Rey Garduno, Don Harris, Trudy Jones, Sally Mayer, Debra O’Malley and Ken Sanchez. The council members are elected on staggered terms, with four or five districted Councilors elected every two years.
Bernalillo County Government
Bernalillo County has a commission/manager form of government, which delegates most of the day-to-day administrative matters to the County Manager Thaddeus Lucero. He oversees 25 departments that range from Animal Regulation to Zoning.
A five member commissioners elected from representative districts oversee Bernalillo County government. Alan Armijo is the chairman and Commission Members include: Deanna Archuleta, Michael Brasher, Tim Cummins and Dr. Teresa Cordova.
Assessor Karen Montoya, Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver, Probate Judge, Sheriff Darren White and Treasurer Patrick Padilla and Merri Rudd are elected countywide. |
