It's about staying connected

Our mission is not merely to build a community, but to give the people who live and work in Mesa del Sol a sense of community, a deep feeling of connectedness. To the land, to the region’s history and culture, and to each other. And one of our primary avenues for accomplishing this is through parks and natural open space.

The plan for Mesa del Sol sets aside 3,200 acres for parks and open space. There will be small pocket parks and neighborhood parks within easy walking distance of every home. There will be larger community parks, where lots of people can gather — to watch a kids’ soccer game, have a company picnic or just hang out under a tree or at the swimming pool.

The open space network will include miles of trails for hiking and biking. In fact, we see the trail network as a key element in Mesa del Sol’s mulit-modal transportation system. It will offer a safe, direct and very enjoyable way to get to where you want to go.

But these open spaces will serve another, perhaps deeper, purpose. They will honor the land. They will preserve large areas of high desert landscape. And each of Mesa del Sol’s major open space corridors will point to one of the region’s most prized landmarks: Sandia Crest, South Sandia Peak, Mosca Peak, Ladron Mountain or Mount Taylor.

Which could turn a simple walk to the coffee shop into an enriching cultural experience.
