The Big Picture

a place fueled by prosperity

With most planned communities, economic development and job growth are the hoped-for results of homebuilding. The idea is that if you build some homes, people will want to live in them. Then if enough people come to a community, maybe some businesses will want to move in, too. You might say that this formula makes economic development the happy ending of the story … a happy ending that sometimes doesn’t happen.

But Mesa del Sol began with economic development and job creation, years before the first homes were planned to appear. From one perspective, it’s a radical approach because it’s so uncommon. On the other hand, it just makes sense. Attract strong, forward-looking businesses with New Mexico’s nurturing economic climate. Strong businesses create good jobs. Good jobs create income. Income lets people buy nice homes.

This is a very simplified description of Mesa del Sol’s economic development model, a model that is actually an intricate partnership between public and private entities — companies, government agencies and educational institutions. But the logic holds true: a community that’s founded on prosperity can’t help but grow strong.
